The race for the top four is really heating up now. Manchester City have essentially been dragged into the race despite sitting in second place just one point above in form team Arsenal.

Image: http://www.allsoccerplanet.com Arsenal’s success has partly been down to in form striker Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal have proved recently that they are not reliant on Alexis Sanchez as players like Monreal, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Olivier Giroud have shined in recent weeks.

TABLE PREM

With Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City on poll position it is difficult to call who the top four will actually be come end of the season. Especially since Liverpool have been in such fine form. Tottenham and Southampton seem to slowly be dropping out of the fourth place race but with nine games left, anything can happen.

Spurs will be disappointed with their performance against Manchester United this weekend and for me made it seem like their chances crumbled in front of me. They were weak at the back, soft in midfield, and lacked any creativity in front of goal. Their inability to handle with Fellaini and Rooney, a combination that has hardly been deadly this season, shows just how far off they are from truly attacking a top four spot.

Southampton will feel that their point against Chelsea was crucial in retaining their chances but after disappointing losses against Liverpool and West Brom in recent weeks I cannot see them pushing into the top four either.

Here’s where it gets difficult…

Arsenal will undoubtedly secure their position in the top four because that’s just what they do. Who will miss out though?

Liverpool have really hit form as they always seem to in the second half of the season and Manchester United looked re-energized against Spurs. I cannot see Manchester City dropping enough points for them to drop out of the top four. That’s why it makes it so difficult.

With Liverpool seeming to be unstoppable at the minute I think they will just about pinch the final spot.

That’s right, I think Manchester United will be the ones left disappointed because of their heavy reliability on Wayne Rooney & David De Gea, who has without a doubt been the best goalkeeper this season.
